I said she picked me from my cherry tree
But that was a lie
I’m just an Aesop’s fable
I’ve got secrets to hide
A poisoned past
Unfertile soil
I’m not a place to plant
The seed of budding love
That she is searching for
I can’t
I have been that blooming flower
Home to butterflies and rosy cheeks
And I have been the withered stalk
Home to buzzing flies and lesser things
So I will spare her me
Give her pleasure that a white lie brings
Make her think she’s special for a night
And leave her memories
Before the poison seeps in
Before the axe bites deep
Before I see my pain reflected
In a gaze I cannot keep
